Controlling Potamageton

Over the years, this large pond became completely choked up with Potamageton natans, which prevented sunlight from penetrating the depths of the pond which is so important in creating a balanced pond ecosystem.  The pond’s productivity is reduced due to the lower water temperatures and less oxygenating plants growing due to the lack of light.  Over a period of two and half days, large quanties of water plant were removed from the pond.  Regular removal of the plant is needed in the following years to ensure the gradual reduction in the plant’s vigour and therefore bringing it under control.
